Cananopie: I mean advertising is always supposed to be manipulative, but do you ever feel you're manipulating in a sense you felt was morally or ethically wrong?
Steven Cloud: yes, i struggle daily with the ethics of my job

Steven Cloud: basically you're trying to get ppl to buy stuff they don't want or need
Steven Cloud: i mean, i work on AOL so i can rationalize that people enjoy it and it's not cigarettes or exxon
Steven Cloud: but still... people don't want or need advertising.
Cananopie: right. I don't think advertising is bad... I just think corporate advertising is excessive.
Steven Cloud: yeah, it's way excessive
Steven Cloud: and it promotes a consumer culture that makes people believe buying stuff will make them happy. which is false.
Steven Cloud: advertising seriously drains your soul.
Steven Cloud: i say that truthfully
